Good evening DSL coaches, soccer coordinators and diocesan athletic directors:
Just a few things I wanted to follow up with for everyone:
1. Build out rule – I have had a few reports that our build out rule is not being uniformly enforced. This rule applies to first through fourth grade play. Our most current rules are attached for reference, but it seems that the confusion circles around the differences between goal kicks and when the keeper stops the ball. In both instances the attacking team is to retreat to the build out line. When the keeper stops the play and has the ball in hand, attacking players have to stay behind the build out rule until the keeper puts the ball into play. Once the ball is in play attacking players can advance. During a goal kick though, attacking players cannot advance until a defender touches the ball. Please make sure that your coaches, players and referees understand this rule. It will be in effect for the tournament so it is in everyone’s best interest to get used to it now.
2. Developmental Tournament. Below is a current listing of team registrations (each school should review and confirm that this is accurate). I have heard from all current teams except Ave Maria, St. Monica and South Hills Catholic – if those teams plan on participating please let me know soon, as several brackets are almost filled. Based on current registration numbers we plan on having 8 separate brackets (1st, 2nd, 1/2, 3rd, 4th, 3/4, JV girls and Varsity Girls),Please note that this is entirely dependent on us maintaining atlas 4 teams per bracket and that the if a few teams dropped off at the 1/2 grade, JV girls or Varsity girls there is a risk that those brackets get cancelled. Also I have attached a form of player roster and the tournament rules. On the day of the tournament each team needs to submit their signed player rosters for that team and their $100 registration fee per team. We ask that those fees are in cash so that we can use them to day same day costs such as referees, field rental, trophies, etc. Typically it is easiest if each school designates the person with their school’s first game of the day to pay those fees and submit the rosters as both need to be in hand 30 minutes prior to your first scheduled match. Feel free to contact me with any questions on the rules, some changes from the past years include the facility specific rules regarding tents, coolers, etc., the increase in field size and format for 3rd and 4th grade matches (now a 7v7 format; 1st, and and the all girls tournament remain 5v5), and the softer offsides rule for 1/2 grade where just the obvious cherry picking (as solely determined by the referee) will be called.
