DSL – Fall Registration, DSL Soccer Camp and St. Louise Fall Kickoff Tournament

All:

I hope all is well with summer and that your soccer registrations are going well.  A few quick things for your consideration this morning:
1.  With respect to Fall registrations and the girls league in particular, nothing this season is contemplated as changing as we continue and expand the girls offering.  It will be continue to be a 5v5 format; we will keep standings, but for the time being there will not be a playoff format other than the all girls tournament that we do in connection with the developmental tournament; it will be a 6 game season; and the girls are encouraged to do both the girls league and the co-ed league.  Finally, as a message to soccer coordinators and school AD's, our 11v11 and 7v7 JV/V leagues are co-ed.  We understand that schools may end up without girls on their JV/V teams and we do not restrict such teams from playing, but schools are required to have those teams open to boys and girls both at sign ups.  If a determination is made that your registration for those teams excluded girls you will not be eligible for postseason play and continued infractions could negate your ability to participate in the league as a whole.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to me to discuss.

2. As a reminder, the DSL is hosting a week-long soccer camp this summer on 7/28-8/1.  If you are interested, here is the sign up information:  https://challenger.configio.com/pd/261916/
3. St. Louise is hosting a fall kick off tournament on 8/9 as well for grades 1-8. See attached for registration information.
That is it for me, thanks and have a great week.

DSL Fall 2025 Registration

Good morning everyone, I hope that summer finds you all well.  I know that July has just started, but this is the time of year that my thoughts turn to DSL soccer and I have to start gearing up to get things ready for our fall season and our registration for schools for the fall season is officially open.  Below is the Fall 25' timeline, which is substantially similar to the one I sent at the end of the spring season.  Also, attached you can find a form of registration and form of player roster.  As a reminder, registration is open now and will close on August 1, registrations received after August 1 will not be guaranteed placement in the fall session.  On August 1 registration fees are also due, schools that have not submitted both the forms and the fees will not be scheduled.  A kickoff meeting will occur on August 7th at 7:30pm (zoom link to follow closer to the date).  The first practice dates are set by schools, other than the requirement that no practices can start prior to 8/11.  Player Rosters are due 8/29, and the first games start the week/weekend of 8/29 as well.

Subject to their being enough teams to make each bracket viable, the intent is to do the following brackets this fall: 1st grade, 2nd grade, combined 1/2 grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, combined 3/4 grade, Girls JV, Girls V, 7v7 JV, 7v7 V, 11v11 JV, 11v11V.  If we have enough teams at the JV/V level we will further split those brackets based on last season’s performance of the combined JV/V teams.  Also please note that when composing your teams that only players attending your school are permitted (players that attend the church, but not the school are not eligible to play) and if two or more schools are considering combining to be able to make a team, such combination must be approved in advance by the DSL.

Finally, I will be out July 14-21 on vacation.  Feel free to reach out as needed with questions, just note that my responses may be delayed at that time, possibly until after I return.

DSL Season Wrap Up Email

All:
First off, thank you all for a fantastic season, out of the scheduled almost 600 games we had issues with only three that I was made aware of.  So while we still have room for improvement next fall, that is a pretty good success rate.  Most importantly though, I hope your players had a good season, built on their skills, learned how to be better teammates and were able to accept both victories and losses in a graceful manner.  There are a few things I want to cover in this email including results from the JV/V championship Series, timelines for next fall (including registration deadlines at the diocese level) and opportunities for some touches over the summer at a couple soccer camps that I have been asked to share.
1.  This past week/weekend we played 17 games to determine section champs.  It felt like we played in three different seasons between the rain, the cool weather, and even some welcomed sunshine by Sunday.  Here is a listing of the teams that qualified and your ultimate tournament champs:
JV MLS:  Playoff Qualifiers – Blessed Seelos; Semi-finalists – Sacred Heart Red and Butler Catholic; Finalist – Mother of Mercy; Champion – St. James
JV Premier:  Playoff Qualifiers – Sacred Heart Black and Mary of Nazareth; Semi-finalists – Guardian Angel and Holy Sepulcher ; Finalist – St. Kilian; Champion – Aquinas
Varsity MLS:  Playoff Qualifiers – Sacred Heart Red; Semi-finalists – St. James and Holy Sepulcher; Finalist – St. James; Champion – St. Bede
Varsity Premier:  Playoff Qualifiers – Holy Cross; Semi-finalists – Archangel Gabriel and Sacred Heart Black; Finalist – Guardian Angel; Champion – St. Kilian
2. Below is the timeline for the Fall Season, note that registration opens on July 1 and it closes on August 1.  Registrations or updates received after August 1 are not guaranteed a spot in the fall session.  I will follow up before July with the registration form as well.

DSL – Week 9 Email

All:
Just a few things as we head into the holiday weekend:
1. On the JV/V front, thank you to those teams that played games this week already for uploading your game results immediately after the game.  For all other teams that are yet to play, please do the same and that will help me notify the teams that qualify for postseason play.  Also, note that the website is great for many things, including the standings, but in instances where there is a tie, the website may not be 100% accurate when you view it.  That is because we have to go over our tie breaking rules and make a determination since we place head to head play ahead of goal differential and the website just uses goal differential.  Please do not inform your team that you made the playoffs until you hear from me either late Sunday evening or Monday (assuming all score cards have been uploaded).
2.  Also please review the website for game results and standing points and let me know by the end of day Friday if you see any errors or missing games.  This is a request we have made all season because I don't want a team to not progress out of bracket or be listed in the wrong position, but at some point I need to go off the data we have and make decisions, and that point is end of day Friday.
3.  Now the fun stuff

DSL Tournament

All:
It looks like the weather for the tournament is improving and the odds of us getting caught in the rain have gone down.  That being said, there is still a chance of rain.  As a reminder, for those bringing tents, do not set them up in the gravel area between the two fields.  There will be other events at the venue that day and we need to keep that area open for emergency vehicle access.  If you have questions as to where to set up the tent, come see us at the event tent and we can guide you before you set up (as opposed to having to have you move it after you started setting up).
Also, please remember to bring weights to secure your tent.  Stakes are not permitted to be used due to the damage it would cause to the turf and unsecured tents are not allowed.  It looks like we will have fairly constant winds of 12-25mph with occasional gusts of up to 40mph so your unsecured tent will quickly turn into a box kite if not properly secured.

DSL Week 8 email

All:
Just a few quick notes this week:
1. Developmental – Our season ends this weekend with our end of season tournament at No Off Season this Saturday.  Please review the rules and your game times and come ready to play.  Don't forget to bring pinnies if you don't have dark and light jerseys.  Any questions, let me know.  Here is a link to the Tournament Page.  Between this and the tournament tent you should be able to keep an eye on how you are doing and assess your odds of advancing out of bracket.  https://pittdsl.org/tournament/
2. JV/V – Remember, the last day to get your games in is Sunday, May 25th.  Games must be played by then and score cards must be loaded immediately following the game to count for standings.  If a game has not been played the starting point is that it is assessed as a “non-played” game and neither team gets standing points.  If a forfeit win/loss is requested we will assess the situation, including why the original game was not played and what efforts were utilized in trying to reschedule the game.  If a forfeit win/loss is determined to be warranted the “winning team” gets 2 standing points and the losing team get -2.
Please take a look at the standings and results tab of the webpage and make sure that all of your games have been correctly uploaded.  If you see an error or that a game was not loaded correctly contact me so that we can fix it well before 5/25.  The most common reason for a game upload not being accepted is someone leaves the page before the results have been fully loaded and so long as you still have the game cards, its an easy fix.
Looking ahead, the date and location of the JV/V Championship Series has not changed from the information provided at the beginning of the season, but I can add some detail.  We will Play Thursday, May 29 through Sunday June 1, at Seton LaSalle High School.  Play in games will be Thursday and Friday, Semifinals will be Saturday, and Championship Games will be Sunday.  I'll get an exact schedule to everyone that Monday, assuming everyone has entered their game cards and I can make determinations of who advanced out of bracket.  Brackets of 8 or 9 will have the top 5 advance.  Brackets of 11 will have the top 6 advance out of bracket.  The Thursday/Friday games for the brackets of 8 or 9 will have the 4 seed play the 5 seed.  The Thursday/Friday games for the brackets of 11 will have the 3 seed play the 6 seed and the 4 seed play the 5 seed.  If your team has a conflict and cannot make its designated game time we cannot reschedule, the next team up will have an opportunity to fill that game spot.
More details to follow on the JV/V games in the next week or two, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, but understand that this week is a bit crazy with the developmental tournament so I may not get back to you until next week.

DSL – Tournament Update

All:
One correction, I attached the wrong set of rules.  Disregard the rules I sent out earlier this evening as they were for the JV/V Playoffs in a few weeks.  Here are the correct rules for the Developmental and JV/V Girls tournament.  Specifically note the location of the tournament continues to be at No Off SEason in Russellton (the JV/V Playoff Rules reference Seton LaSalle as the venue, which is correct for that tournament, but not correct for the May 17th tournament).
